What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach that helps individuals process traumatic memories and negative experiences. It involves bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to facilitate the adaptive processing of information.
Who can benefit from EMDR?
EMDR can benefit individuals who have been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, phobias, depression, and other emotional challenges. It is an effective memory reconsolidation technique, allowing spontaneous shifts in negative self beliefs often stemming from painful personal experiences. As such, it promotes post traumatic growth, releases self compassion, enhances self-esteem, and overall well-being.
How does EMDR work?
EMDR works by helping individuals reprocess distressing memories, shifting their negative beliefs and emotions towards more positive and adaptive ones. Through guided sessions, clients can experience significant relief and transformation.
Who can join a supervision group?
Starters: If you are looking for a Consultant and have completed basic training (minimum 3 day basic training) in EMDR with an accredited trainer you may join a supervision group. Reach out for an initial 1:1 to discuss with Allie the most suitable group to join.
Accreditation: If you are on the pathway for Accreditation with EMDRAA, Allie provides a Consultant service to take you all the way through the process.
If you are on the pathway for Consultant with EMDRAA, Allie provides a Consultant service to take you all the way through the process. This is usually taken as a combination of group and individual supervision. Reach out for an initial 1:1 to discuss with Allie the most suitable group to join.

Alumni of advanced training: If you have completed training in attachment informed EMDR or IFS informed EMDR and wish to join a supervision group of colleagues who have also completed the same, for ongoing practice and case consultation, you may choose the ai or IFS informed supervision groups. These are closed groups that run once a month usually for several months. Complete the enquiry form to find out when the next group is starting.

Is it worth the investment?
The cost of training in EMDR is equivalent to the cost of a university course or college course. In some parts of the world, EMDR coursework at the tertiary level is now available. EMDRAA holds best practice standards for trainers, and qualifies and trains Consultants and Accredited Practitioners to this standard. It is recommended that the best value for money in pursuing ongoing education in EMDR is to seek the services of accredited consultants who have met the standards of consultation and training of the Accreditation Board.

How can this benefit my practice?
EMDR is a therapy tool that can efficiently supercharge benefits to clients. It was described by the originator, Francine Shapiro, as an integrative therapy, designed to work together with other therapies. She writes that it is particularly suited to integration with parts models such as Schema Therapy. Many practitioners also find it works well with IFS. EMDR belongs to the class of memory re-consolidation therapies along with IFS, Coherence Therapy and many others. CBT and schema trained practitioners will find that some techniques are familiar, with a focus on thought, emotion, body, and belief. Therapists trained in person centred therapies such as narrative and insight oriented, will find that EMDR fits nicely, and provides the client and therapist with a clear session structure to manage free association, bringing both left and right hemispheres on line together.
